This particular visit called for a "routine" finger prick to test patient Bella's iron level. Routine it was not. The nurse proceeded to stick, slide, apply the band aid and the walk out the door. Baby Bella was in a full blown meltdown as she tried to pull the band aid off to get to the source of the pain.
Seconds later the band aid came off and blood was flowing everywhere. We tried to apply pressure and reapply a band aid but to no avail. Mommy went to the door and get the nurse. It took two of them to get the proper pressure, stop the bleeding and apply a wrap.
Mommy and Bella were in tears, the nurse was mortified and Daddy was minus one blue dress shirt. All of this and we still hadn't gotten to the shots yet. Are you kidding me?
The shots were anti climatic - thankfully. Alas, we were out the door.
Grandma Cain met us at the house and comforted our little free bleeder. Clearly traumatized, Baby Bella proceeded to take a two hour nap.
And just think - we get to do it all over again in three weeks. Thank goodness kids are resilient.
